Some thoughts on Labour's new amendment May's government is doing the negotiation, not Corbyn. Corbyn's job is to try and tie May's hand in those negotiations in a good way. 1/n
May and the Brexiters want the UK to be able to diverge from the EU in various ways. The CU amendment stops that happening for tariffs. This amendment tells May to aim to keep the same institutions, regulations, rights, standards and protections. 2/3
This is 'an' objective not 'the' objective, so hopefully right wing Labour MPs can vote for it, but nevertheless it cuts across everything that the Brexiters want to achieve. Smart? /end
