BREAKING: Federal judge says the Trump administration can't roll back the Flores settlement that limits the time the gov can hold children in immigration politico.com/story/2018/07/…
Judge Gee blasted the admin's bid to hold families with kids in ICE long-term, calling it "a cynical attempt...to shift responsibility to the Judiciary for over 20 years of Congressional inaction and ill-considered Executive action that have led to the current stalemate."
Judge Gee to the Trump admin on overturning a decades-old settlement: "Defendants seek to light a match to the Flores Agreement and ask this Court to upend the parties’ agreement by judicial fiat." politico.com/f/?id=00000164…
This ruling makes it much more likely that the families a different federal court has order to be reunited will be reunited and RELEASED pending their hearings. Trump admin said as much in court today. talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/trump-admin…
In her ruling, Judge Gee **DRAGS** the Trump admin for arguing without evidence that the Flores agreement caused a surge in family migration politico.com/f/?id=00000164…
"The Court finds Defendants’ logic dubious and unconvincing," she wrote, pointing to data showing that migration is motivated by "civil strife, economic degradation, and fear of death in the migrants’ home countries."
Gee also **DRAGS** the Trump admin for incorrectly stating that they need to detain families indefinitely because if released they "frequently fail to appear" in court.
