The latest court hearing on the Trump admin's immigrant family separations is about to begin. Follow for updates.
Trump admin says as of today, 1,012 children have been reunited with their parents. Can't answer how many are now in family detention and how many have been released on parole.
Trump admin claims that 127 parents waived reunification with their children. That number was higher a few days ago. "My understanding is that some have changed their mind," DOJ attorney Sarah Fabian tells the court.
Trump admin says there are 260 children who are undergoing "further evaluation." "It may be that parent was released and we cannot locate him or her," DOJ attorney says.
Trump admin not knowing things is an emerging theme in this hearing! So far they don't know:
-how many parents were deported
-whether they signed up for "voluntary departure"
-whether they were deported with or without their children
Still, the Trump admin says they are on track to reunite all "eligible" families by the court's Thursday deadline. Then they and the @ACLU will argue over those they've deemed "ineligible."
@ACLU Another thing the Trump admin says they don't know: how many kids have still not been "matched" with the parent they were taken from. The last count of this category was 37 but DOJ attorney just said she's not sure if that's still the number.
@ACLU .@ACLU is now pleading for the judge give reunited families 7 days to talk to lawyers before being deported: "Talking to people on the ground, things are really a mess. We desperately need 7 days to counsel these people."
@ACLU Trump admin says the parents have had adequate time to consult with their kids by phone whether they want to be deported together. The @ACLU says this couldn't be further from the truth.
@ACLU Now the Trump admin's attorneys are getting very irate about the @ACLU's plan to submit evidence of chaos and denial of rights to parents!
@ACLU Now Trump admin argues that the separate lawsuit by 17 state attorneys general against the family separations will make it harder for them to have the resources to give the @ACLU the info they need in this case.

"I do not have any comment or observation," Judge Sabraw replies.
@ACLU DOJ attorney Scott Stewart hits back at the @ACLU: "The government takes issue with the assertion that there is a mess on the ground. We have many reasons to be proud of this effort."
Here is my writeup of the hearing. Thanks so much for following, everyone! This story is moving fast and there will be updates daily if not several times a day. talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/aclu-pleads…
