I might look at the Electoral Commission decision today and think of how it might damage Brexit, but I don’t. (Thread)
It is important that referendums are fair and legitimate.
The idea that something improper in the democratic process, even untrue, help delegitimise the result in the minds of many.
In times of economic boom, these ideas may not take hold, but at other times they can provide seductive stories for those who cannot prevail by honest persuasion, or by straight example. 
Stories of a people being made to do something against their will.
An arrogant ‘elite’
Or a contemptuous one
A dishonest campaign

Or one subject to collusion,
These tales are the tools used throughout history by people of purpose to illicit support from the poverty stricken, the angry, the disaffected, or those simply without hope.
Stories that can help change a spark back into a flame, and fuel the resulting fire for decades to come. theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/j…
Time has show these are effective when they are just tales, but are more powerful when they are true.
So, I don’t think how this may damage Brexit. I don’t think that should be my first concern.
I’m more worried about how, in the future, this may be used to compel people to do damage to each other.
Because an unfair “once in a generation referendum” can become a once held referendum that condemns our generations to come.
