People are wrong to think the Tory Brextremists don't have a #Brexit plan. They have a well worked-out plan which they don't want the public to know about. It's called "We want a #BrexitTaxHaven for the rich and screw everyone else".

Britain needs foreign investment, most comes to access the EU. After a hard #Brexit & more so after a no-deal, the UK will need another attraction. The ERG know the answer - taxes slashed on business and wealth and a bonfire of regulations and worker's rights. A #BrexitTaxHaven
So the ERG Tories intend to use a brutal hard #Brexit to hardwire the UK as an ultra-free market economy. And once businesses have become hooked on ultra-low taxes and regulations it will be very difficult to break the dependency.

1/ A thread on #Brexit lies.

It is absolutely necessary to distinguish between the occasional lie which merely serves to deceive & a climate of lies which undermines democracy. This effect may be accidental or it may be deliberate. I believe the latter.

2/ What we are seeing are tightly linked transatlantic networks peddling lies on a scale unparalleled in modern UK and US politics. It is hard to see this behaviour as other than coordinated.
3/ When lies predominate facts & reasons lose their power to persuade. Without a common ground of agreed facts debate turns into shouting, insults and anger, people sink into disillusion & apathy or descend into the politics of emotion and prejudice.

3/ Right-wing think tanks including leading Brexiter MEP Daniel Hannan's IFT and the US Cato Institute called for the NHS to be opened to foreign competition and a bonfire of consumer and environmental regulations

2/ Here is David Koch's program when he stood as a Libertarian Party Vice-Presidential candidate in 1980. Take your time to read it. It is terrifying in its extremism. For example he opposed all income tax. And remember, he and his brother are worth around $90bn.
3/ The Kochs are spending around $400m on the upcoming US elections. The network of think-tanks political organisations they fund and control is enormous. 3 names stand out with regard to #Brexit, the Heritage Foundation, the Cato Institute, and the Atlas (Network) Research Fdn.

1. The no deal #Brexit advocates are in full spin mode. They say we can trade on WTO terms alone. So anybody with a clue asks them about aviation and nuclear sectors etc where they mutter something about bilateral deals. That's an admission that we cannot trade on WTO rules alone
2. They then pretend we can have an amicable negotiated exit to WTO rules. We can't. This would be a package with all the bilaterals covering aviation and nuclear - there bare minimum to avoid civil emergencies. It would not include any mutual recognition on anything.
3. There is no way the EU would sign such an agreement without the existing agreements on citizens rights, the financial settlement and the NI backstop. There is no rowing back from that. The government would have to agree or there is no deal.

1. Most of the Tory Twitter is calling May's #Brexit plan a betrayal. It isn't. It's just a hamfisted attempt to square a difficult circle. The betrayal narrative is one cooked up by the Tory apparatus and the tribalists buy it because they are basically sheep.
2. Most of the people mouthing off about it neither understand nor acknowledge the intractable dilemmas. They just look to their nearest opinion gatekeeper like Rees-Mogg or Julia Dunning-Kruger. It couldn't be more ovine.
3. What makes it utterly ridiculous is the fact that there isn't a cat in hell's chance Brussels will actually go for it so it's a massive waste of everybody's time and makes no deal a near certainty.

1. They say the leave side lied in the #Brexit referendum. As it happens, everybody did. That's what politics is. Lying. It's a fight between you, me and the swamp. It's always a battle for the disengaged middle. This is why Jacob Rees-Mogg lies so brazenly.
2. The man is no idiot. The man knows his lies are transparent to anyone with half a clue. But he knows his target audience doesn't have any clue at all. The image he projects has an air of authority. It's about getting people to believe in him.
3. He certainly doesn't give a flying fuck about the people he is using. The disengaged middle are just a political resource to be used for as long as is convenient. No lie is too big so long has he gets his version of Brexit.

2. A flawed Leave campaign based on lies, deceit, disingenuity & over simplification & a #Remain one fought w/o any positivity from the Govt & no real commitment from Labour, whose leader was virtually AWOL, did no justice to #Brexit complexity & betrayed our democratic process.
3. A mere 37% of voters/26.5% of the Ppl voted leave in a legally Non-Binding test of public opinion which has been corrupted, on the basis of an illegitimate political promise & interpreted as being the irrefutable Will of the Ppl.
The 1st is insufficient to claim the latter!
