anyone who says socialism has never worked needs to look up Thomas Sankara and Burkina Faso
Sankara was in power for 4 years, and during that time, he: vaccinated 2.5 million children against meningitis, yellow fever and measles, increased literacy from 13% to 73%, planted over 10 million trees, made the country food self sufficient, and wrote the new national anthem
Sankara doubled wheat production; had over 350 communities build schools with their own labor; outlawed female genital mutilation, forced marriages, and polygamy; put many women in high places in his government; laid 430 miles of rail; and reduced government salaries
Thomas Sankara was a Marxist and a Pan-Africanist. this is the ideology which brought so much to Burkina Faso during those years and anyone interested in the world being a more just place should study him, Marxism, and Pan-Africanism
