I just posted that reddit URL to FB and it wouldn't pull a preview. I got the link in (we'll see if it gets flagged), but it wouldn't thumbnail it.

The JS community is sadly a hotbed of this kind of project-destroying crusaderism. There's some of this in the Ruby world, as well, but it's not as widespread.
I have no doubt that "here is a list of evil people/companies that are not allowed to use our software" will catch on as a licensing thing. 🙄 I look forward to being formally prohibited from using a wide range of things on firearm-related projects.
In the present culture war, it seems that everything that can be weaponized will be weaponized. The only thing that has yet to be weaponized are literal weapons, but y'know give it a minute. 🤦‍♂️

He’s right but this is only half of it. Other half is they’ll appropriate left’s argument (made re: Russia) that social media manipulation is an attack on democracy, and recast ham-fisted moderation as RU-style attacks that delegitimize election results they don’t like.
This angle will be effective because it’s not entirely wrong, and we’ll all be arguing over the degree to which it’s an exaggeration.
If Trump were gone from office tomorrow, the battle over Russiagate would still be less than half over. We’re going to be fighting over what level of algo-and moderation-driven platform bias casts a cloud over election results for years.

I've come to the conclusion recently that I've not done a good enough job of talking about the 3D printed gun issue. I don't think anyone has really. There are too many smart, open-minded people who are like "yeah but these files are dangerous so how can u not want 2 delete them?
"Ok, so you convinced me that bad people cannot just print guns. Still, this stuff is bad so why should it not get deleted? Why should we not delete dangerous files and content from the 5 computers we all share?"

I've failed to give a good answer to this.
The problem is structural. The case for censoring these files can be summed up quickly & grasped by a five-year-old. The case against censoring them is complicated & requires specific knowledge in multiple domains.

Holy cow! I finally landed from my travels and will be organizing and settling in over the next couple days, then back to digging. I have thousands of msgs and likely won't see them all, but I've seen tons regarding the "notebook". I will take a glance at it as soon as I can....
...but I'm guessing there are already hundreds of people breaking it down and doing a fine job. So I may or may not dive deep into it because I have several other projects to work on, plus videos I need to get rolling on. And, I have to catch up on all the news. Wowsers.
There are a few things that have dropped over the past week that are peaking my interest, so I will most definitely need a full day to review all of the news I missed, after getting organized and settling in. I'm excited. Looks like some bombshells hit!
