One more followup thread on reddit & big tech censorship. I think 100% of the ppl who think these censorship moves are just a few tech CEOs abusing their platform to play at politics, have never had to live with the burden of "fiduciary duty" and "duty of care."
With companies that you don't personally own -- whether they're owned by shareholders or VCs or whatever -- the only way you'd make a major platform decision based on your personal politics, is with great fear & trepidation & the backing of the owners.
In other words, the decision to plant a flag on some hot-button political issue introduces risk that NOBODY wants, so it had better be worth it. These companies didn't come out for, say, LGBTQ rights until well after that stuff was mainstream & the risk level had gone way down.
Anyway, I don't really have much more to say about this, other than to say the experience of living under that level of contractual obligation, & of having that much money tied to your faithful execution of it, is a very rare thing that few people can grok.
That situation does not lend itself to random crusades, or public vendettas, or personal tomfoolery, as a certain billionaire industrialist is presently finding out the hard way.
