On This Day, 1917: Leaving the White House, Woodrow Wilson was hounded by women suffragists demanding the right to vote. Some of the women were arrested and thrown in jail—where they went on hunger strikes and were force fed /1 
The resulting publicity upset President Wilson, who agreed to back the 19th amendment. In 1920, that Amendment was passed, officially giving women the right to vote
On This Day. 1981: Ronald Reagan’s attempted assassin plead not guilty of shooting the President and three other people. John Hinckley, Jr. was later found not guilty by reason of insanity - he spent 35 years in a mental ward before being released in 2016 (Shown here in 2014) /1
