1. Conventional wisdom on the internet is that people are too closed off to new ideas, stuck in "filter bubbles," etc.

I think sometimes this is true

But isn't the bigger problem that people are open to too many new ideas?

Let me explain
2. People are open to the idea Trump is fighting a secret pedophile ring run by Democrats and sending coded messages about it

People are open to the idea that voter fraud is a nationwide epidemic

People are open to the idea that the media invents stories out of thin air
3. Is this really the sign of a society that is closed off to new ideas.

Seems like we may instead want to collectively raise the bar on the ideas that we choose to take seriously

The idea that would should be open to the "other side" when its a cesspool of lies seems weird
4. People view openness to an idea as intellectually superior to rejecting it

But they are really both the same

You are presented with an idea and have to make the decision whether it should be taken seriously

Intellectually, both decisions are equally valid
5. Everyone should be open to everyone else's ideas is a nice safe space to feel good and intellectual but it doesn't really dispense with the hard work of figuring out right from wrong.

Society moves forward as we sort these things out.
