1/ I heartily endorse and encourage everyone to read The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure by @JonHaidt and @glukianoff. It speaks truth to power. But...IMHO it is deeply flawed. 
2/ The book is a huge step in the right direction. It calls out the cognitively distorted thinking of the illiberal progressive social justice left that dominates current western culture.
3/ Haidt and Lukianoff identify and refute three great falsehoods that serve as core assumptions/presumptions underpinning Coddled thinking, and six intellectual threads that all came together in a perfect storm of cognitively distorted thinking. But...
4/ They leave out two important causal threads; arguably the most important threads of all. First, they leave out the psychological profile of the leftist Righteous Mind, which is the fertile soil in which Coddled thinking grows.
5/ Leftist psychology (Hibbing) with its one-dimensional moral perception & cognition (Haidt) and the Platonic idealism (Herman) of its unconstrained (from reality) vision (Sowell) is pathological (Oakley, Bloom). This is the elephant in the room Haidt and Lukianoff look past.
6/ Second, they overlook the affective priming our children are subjected to from kindergarten through university in the education system that is dominated by liberals. Let me explain...
7/ In The Righteous Mind, a book about the evolutionary origins of morality, @JonHaidt, doesn’t give his definition of morality until page 314. Here’s his explanation for waiting that long:
8/ What he has done is a form of what’s called “affective priming,” in which the mind is “tuned up” to be ready for, even predisposed toward, certain ideas. He describes affective priming on pages 66-67 of The Righteous Mind.
9/ Now imagine an education system in which the great majority of the teachers, from kindergarten through university, lean left. This is in fact the case.
10/ From the stories that are read to preschoolers to the books and other readings that are assigned in elementary and middle schools to the orientation of history, civics, economics, and even health classes in high schools, the entire curriculum leans solidly left.
11/ It is nearly inevitable and unavoidable that such a system would “tune up” young minds toward the social justice mindset @JonHaidt and @glukianoff outline in their book, and Haidt described in “Two Incompatible Sacred Values at American Universities”
12/ These two causal threads, a) the psychological profile of the leftist Righteous Mind and b) the affective priming of 13 or more years of left-leaning education are, IMHO, more important and influential to, and even precede, Coddled thinking than any Haidt & Lukianoff mention.
