Quick response to @DermotLeary's confusing, misleading, and often outright dishonest piece today, see image below. (1/)
.@DermotLeary argument here emphasizes all the downsides of the plan and conceals of the benefits. It's exactly like telling people that a job is terrible because you have to work, while never mentioning that you also get paid. (2/)
So again, the point of @busconnects is to massively expand people's ability to go more places, so they can do more things, so they have more opportunities in their lives. That's what @DermotLeary, @NBRU_DUBLIN, @pb4p, and many councillors/TDs are attacking. (3/)
Notice: The entire article is about (a) people having to change buses (or more often, from buses to trains) and (b) the loss of direct service into some estates. Here's a quick rundown of the falsehoods and exaggerations. (4/)
.@DermotLeary writes: "Places such as Coolock, Cabra, Crumlin, Tallaght, Tyrellstown, Drimnagh, Rathcoole and Sallynoggin will now have local services only and people in those estates will be forced to get at least two buses to get into town." (5/)
If we're talking about most of these communities, this is false except for Tyrellstown. Most of Coolock, Cabra, Crumlin, and Tallaght are within 400m direct city service that's more frequent than it is today. To claim that they don't is a lie. (6/) @busconnects
As for #Drimnagh, it's almost all 400m from more frequent city service, though not on the same street. (7/) @BusConnects
Finally, as for #Sallynoggin and #Rathcoole, they don't take two buses. They take a more frequent bus to a tram or train, and get to the city center SOONER. (8/)
So again, @DermotLeary tells you about all the plan's disadvantages and none of its benefits. That's like saying a job is bad because you have to work, without telling you you'll be paid. #busconnects @busconnects (9/) ...
... and even so, @DermotLeary gets his facts wrong, and refuses to describe the disadvantages honestly. (10/10)
