I don't wanna have a goddamn beer with my president. I want them to know how to do their damn jobs. I don't want the popular kid. I don't want the class clown. I want the girl at the front of the class who keeps raising her hand because she did her homework and has the answers.
I am so goddamn sick and tired of folks who need to be "inspired" to put in the work. Kerry sure as hell didn't inspire me, but you can bet your ass I canvassed for him when I was 18 because it mattered. It always does. Stop waiting for the world to come to you. Not gonna happen.
And now, I've spent the eight weeks spending every waking hour trying to guesstimate just how screwed I'll be as a transgender person if Kavanaugh gets confirmed. For so many of us, this is life-and-death. It's not a goddamn afterschool special.
We talk and talk and talk. We explain. We lay out the threats. We elaborate on the obstacles we face. We ask them to consider. We beg for it. And when they fail to consider our experiences even after all that, they have the audacity to ask why we're so angry. So done with it.
