Migration Advisory Committee talks like this because it’s an utterly political creature of Home Office - echoing back UK’s broken “control” mentality 👇
Govs can use powers to shape who moves & stays where: economic, housing, jobs policies. And immigration rules & enforcement. “control” or “no control” isn’t what really determines migration.

After 40 years of free movement , 99% of EU27 cits still live there, not here.
If MAC means “many UK voters *feel* UK has no control over EU citz” then let’s talk about what causes “feelings” (MAC isn’t qualified).

US doesn’t give free movement rights to foreigners - but their voters don’t seem to feel in control...

“Prevention” is what led to this (small number of) people risking their lives. But sure, let’s spend more money on that.
“Prevention” smashed up the Calais migrant town, where migrants had better chance of informed choices - where they could share info & be helped by informed NGOs.

Because immigration enforcers see info sharing as a threat, not a protection.
“Prevention” requires UK visas from people from countries where persecution is rife. So they can’t use regular planes, trains, boats or busses.

The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

"We do not envisage moving to that new system in a single step", wrote Rudd, giving a range of political (negotiations, transition), economic (time to plan) and practical/logistical (grace period for 3m, new systems) reasons why it made sense to have 3 phases
Times reports No 10 has now over-ruled Rudd & HO. But appears to propose an impossible policy on 3 fronts. (i) v.likely not negotiable with the EU. (ii) contradicts govt's core messages to business about transition (iii) practically, v.difficult to legislate & implement in time.
