EU sources disputing that Barnier said a Brexit deal is 'within reach' last night. There's a bit of a dispute over correct translation and he meant to say he's working for a deal next Wednesday but 'we're not there yet'. Barnier's words as reported yesterday moved the pound.
Here's the official Commission transcript of that quote, so French speakers can judge for themselves what he meant.
The Commission have now taken the unusual (I believe unprecedented but could be wrong) step of actually putting out their own printed translation of Barnier's speech, in which this line in French becomes this in English 👇
