GP Here's the explanation for media and the elite Left's disconnect with Trump's rise, along with Bolsinaro in Brazil, and many other "nation first" types in Europe.
GP Globalization is not what many/most Americans (and other nations) want. Americans want America to focus on America's best interests, not the gauzy, undefined interests of some "global community."
GP The impact of globalist policies are seen by many as destructive to national identities and to middle-class and blue collar jobs, and rightly so.
GP Media and leftist elites can't see this because they don't know anyone who isn't of a globalist mindset. The default assumption is, "Of course globalization is a net good. All our friends love it!"
GP This is what Democrats, media, and the Left miss. They don't know what they don't know. Worse, they don't care to find out what they don't know. There is no alternative to their rule by cadres of elites, from media, to Democrats here, to the EU, to the UN.
GP Well, it turns out that the not-so-elites have had enough. They don't want to be ruled by transnational organizations who view the destruction of their jobs and ways of life as an unfortunate but necessary byproduct of progress. So STFU and take one for the team.
GP This is why Trump won, and why if Democrats continue to ignore this strain of thought, Trump will win again. It's why Bolsinaro won, it's why Brexit won, and it's why anti-EU and anti-immigrant parties are rising all over Europe.
GP It's not that these icky people hate minorities or don't want to help refugees. They do want to help deserving people. But they're not willing to trade their jobs or national identities to do so, which is pretty much what Democrats and media are insisting upon.
GP Globalization is nice in theory, but in practice, it's destructive and an invitation to rule by cadres of self-selected, unelected elites. Many Americans may not be able to articulate this idea, but they know globalization just feels wrong.
GP This is why Democrats refuse to say things like, "The migrant caravan might be full of people worthy of asylum, but there's no way in hell we're caving to bullying behavior and letting them all into the US as if they have a right to come here."
GP Or even, "Globalization is a net good but we recognize the very real impacts on American blue collar jobs and here are four ideas to fix this issue. Also, we will not, under any circumstances, adopt global laws over American laws."
GP Democrats and media won't say these things because they don't believe these things. They believe that globalization in mankind's destiny, including global rule by super-smart people like themselves. The rest of us should shut up and go along meekly.
GP When your policies come across as, "Shut up and obey us, serfs-to-be," it's a miracle Democrats hold any power at all. And until Democrats and media figure out what they don't know, they're unlikely to achieve majorities they think they deserve.
GP Takeaway? Pro-globalization is heard by many voters (again, rightly so) as anti-American. Hone your messages accordingly.
