1/ What can MPs do to stop a Hard Brexit?
2/ Parliamentary procedure isn't really our area (yet) but we are sure there are several actions that MPs and Peers could do to support a sensible EFTA-based solution for the UK 🇳🇴🇮🇸🇬🇧🇱🇮🇨🇭#brexit #efta
3/ such as set up an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) relating to efta. As far as we know there are APPGs on Switzerland, Iceland etc but not one on EFTA.
4/ the next step for MPs and Peers might be to write a joint letter to the Prime Minister, saying that while they wish her well in negotiations; if she fails she MUST entertain efta/EEA as the nation's Plan B. Send the letter to newspapers too.
5/ then all MPs who either support 🇳🇴 'permenant Norway' 'norway for now' 'Norway then Canada🇨🇦' 'Norway plus Customs Union' 'Norway then Switzerland' etc must put aside their differences and unite behind a single vision of Efta/EEA - how?
6/ As @GeorgeTrefgarne suggests, it shouldn't be too difficult to introduce a clause into any legislation that gets us into EFTA/EEA to include a pre-set review mechanism or sunset clause so that after X number of years, MPs have to give renewed consent to efta/EEA.
7/ this would prevent any Judean popular front/People's front of Judea splits
8/ MPs and Peers should submit written questions to the Treasury - has the potential savings of Efta/eea or efta/bilateral🇨🇭 been calculated by the Treasury (in comparison to EU membership)? If so what were results, if not why not?
9/ FINALLY MPs should study every loophole and legalistic device in the book to ensure that in the event of 'No Deal' the UK would adopt efta/EEA as plan B. Any other ideas? /End

The Brexit vote was against our London-centric system. So if there's an economic hit because of a Brexit London voted against, Westminster would make sure the London Banking sector survived but everywhere else...
Many of the problems that pushed people to vote Brexit had nothing to do with the EU. One of those problems was the government choosing to protect the banks who caused the crash with bailouts while ordinary people just got austerity.
The rich took irresponsible risks with the country's future, but they were protected either by moving their money away or by the government and it was those with least who suffered the most.

1. Our current thinking is that the Chequers plan is totally unworkable. It is impractical and incompatible with EU and international law. The EU will reject it - but not immediately. It will use the time to plan for a no deal #Brexit
2. The general feeling, thanks to the propaganda of the Tory right is that the proposal is about as far as the UK can bend. This is odd because the proposal is not entirely dismiliar to some of the nonsense cooked up by pro-Brexit think tanks. Mrs May cannot win.
3. Mrs May could even adopt their alternative plans with some adjustments and the ultras would shift the goalposts again. They would cry betrayal at any concession. They are unappeasable. There is no deal they will support because they do not want a deal.

1. As you can see the hard #Brexit turnips have their panties in a bunch this week. It would appear they are seeking to leverage the EU's backstop position into a whole UK solution. How many times do they need to be told that this is not going to happen? (Thread!)
2. The NI situation is somewhat unique and any settlement will be an exemption from all the norms of trade and if the EU isn't careful it could find itself open to legal challenges. Wouldn't be surprised if they need to negotiate WTO waivers to complete implementation.
3. What the EU is not going to do though is allow us to pick and choose from the single market. They couldn't have been any clearer than that. they won't compromise their system integrity even for those much vaunted German car makers.

1. Time for a #Brexit history lesson. Us old school leavers bumped into the remain canard that "three million jobs" depend on the EU time and again over many years. So well worn were the arguments that Remain scarcely dare deploy that line during the referendum.
2. It was was easily countered by wa of saying that those jobs depended on trade with the EU, not membership of a political union. So there was always the historic inference that we wanted the maximum trade cooperation possible.
3. If asked if we would support a Brexit that would necessarily result in new barriers to trade, pretty much ecvery leaver would have said no. The infernence is that we would look to safeguard those three million jobs.
