1/ So...I realize that I’ve been saying “vote vote vote” for days, like a billion other people.

That still stands.

But at the launching of this day, I want to acknowledge how much those votes mean.

Voting is a right.
A precious one.
A powerful one...

2/ Thus the many ugly and increasingly blatant attempts to suppress those votes, and thus the blatant lying and fear-mongering to gain their power.

3/ As a nation, we have work to do to protect the right to vote.

A lot of work.

I hope that we’ll have the chance to do it.

4/ But amidst all this ugliness, I want to acknowledge something that somehow still holds true for me today.

I’m proud of the people standing in line to vote.

I’m proud of the people traveling and struggling to get to polling places.

5/ I’m proud of the spirit of this day, as trampled and jeopardized as it is.

It gives me some degree of hope.

It’s a reminder of what we’re fighting for.

6/ So I’m offering an early morning thanks to those who are taking part in the spirit of this day, however they can do so.

I’m always moved—somehow—by that spirit, this year more than most.

Keep it safe and close.
