A Vox cofounder (@mattyglesias) got doxxed on Twitter, and Twitter allowed it. I wrote about what happened, and why it matters: slate.com/technology/201…
Here's the tweet that posted Yglesias' home address. At least two users reported it to Twitter. Twitter replied that it didn't violate any policies, and let the tweet stand for nearly 24 hours.
Only *after* I emailed Twitter PR for comment today was the tweet taken down. Meanwhile, the tweeter's account remains active—and is full of some of the most vile incel content you can imagine.
Why does this matter? Forget Carlson and Yglesias for a second. It matters because, if Twitter won't enforce its policies even in the face of clear violations by hate-spewing trolls against high-profile media types, then what chance do the rest of us have? slate.com/technology/201…
UPDATE: Twitter confirms that it removed the tweet doxxing @mattyglesias after I inquired about it; that the tweet did violate its policies; and that its moderators' prior rejection of user reports of the tweet was a mistake. Story updated to reflect: slate.com/technology/201…

In 2007, as a cub reporter for the San Mateo Daily News, I covered a proposed development in the wealthy SF Peninsula suburb of Belmont that would have been its first mixed-use housing-over-retail project. City planners saw it as a model for the future. eastbaytimes.com/2007/03/22/fir…

On call with reporters just now, Mark Zuckerberg reiterates company line that seems to dispute the NYT story without actually contradicting anything in it.
Zuckerberg says Facebook has decided it "shouldn't be making so many important decisions about free expression and safety on our own." So it's creating a new, independent appeals body.

@Facebook this week reversed its controversial position that news publishers should be scrutinized as purveyors of “political content” alongside advocacy organizations and politicians themselves.

It's a big deal.
2/ The catch: The change is effective immediately in the UK and won't be implemented in the US until next year.

When it takes effect here, newsrooms will be fully exempted from FB's searchable public archive, which logs ads that contain so-called “issues of national importance.”
