A Yes

/ Sometimes, you have to take yes for an answer.
/ I got used to the following rhythm: Trump does something utterly egregious; I look for scripture that will help me process whatever egregiosity has just soiled our land; my wife helps me take the shrill out of the first 2 drafts. I send. You respond. We support one another.
/ But always doing a critique gets boring. And then . . . the Mid-term results started to become clear.
/ Here’s our text: “O taste and see that the Lord is good!” (Psalm 34:8)
/ Did you see all those great young new people who went out, knocked on doors, and got elected to Congress? The nurse from Illinois and the teacher from Massachusetts, the vet in Pennsylvania,..
/... the Native American lawyer from Kansas and all the rest? I know, I know: all of them are people and each of them will make mistakes. So what? They’re beautiful. They’re hopeful. And they are not inside the Trump fog.
/ I was praying hard that Americans would freely choose to check Trump. My mother taught me to say “thank you” before asking for something else. She wanted me to know that if all I did was ask, she just felt used. But if I thanked her she knew I was grateful and I loved her.
/ Works for prayer too. I’m so grateful -- to the candidates and voters and to God -- for the reassertion of citizen democracy in our land!
/ There’s a long struggle ahead. We only dimly understand our plunge into life under this dreadful, corrupt administration that threatens our freedom and our planet’s future.
/ But for now, inside the government are many new, enthused people -- people who are used to working together...
/... veterans and teachers and nurses, ordinary folks with extraordinary courage. And there are honorable, intelligent, experienced members ready and willing to mentor these new folks.
/ It’s been a dreary, overcast November in the Adirondacks. Early this morning I looked east, to the mountains. The clouds caressing the low ranges were beginning to blush. Might be a lovely day.
A day the Lord has made. Think I’ll rejoice and be glad in it.
