A variation on a theme which various of us have been discussing - this Brexit deal could get through Parliament once all alternatives have been exhausted. See also similar from @sundersays
It goes against the grain for this PM - but she really needs to allow Parliament to debate this Brexit deal in full and at great length - for only through doing so will you start to make up for earlier errors of failing to build consensus. Take parliamentary sovereignty seriously
The final paragraph from @Raphael_Hogarth - actually I think now they have to see this through and I doubt there will be a split - and by doing so the ongoing tensions in the Labour Party will also be exposed

Am bored of reading the conventional wisdom that the EU could not renegotiate Brexit, and to make this case will borrow the wisdom of one of our most experienced MEPs @RCorbettMEP - this is how it COULD happen (and why it probably won't)
There is no more important Brexit job for MPs in the coming two months than to build consensus - something those more astute than the PM realised some time ago. Future relationship talks with a split Parliament could not succeed.

The Government may have informally asked the EU about an Article 50 Extension - we presume not for any serious reason (no-deal prep, election, referendum) but in the vague hope this somehow helps the PM's deal pass Parliament
Under three months from leaving the EU by law and we have a Government without a plan.
It is not clear that the UK Government has learned anything about negotiating with the EU over the past two and a half years

There's not much new here, but mention of our freedom to set agriculture rules doesn't sit well with commitments on the Irish border unless assuming Northern Ireland does not in fact have that freedom, and Irish Sea checks
Biggest problem for EEA supporters remains the opposition of both the Labour leadership and the referendum campaigners. Although a majority of MPs could probably live with an EEA solution it is hard to see us getting there

Before this week's #Brexit shenanigans, I said this:

"With May as Prime Minister there can be no Brexit deal"

I stand by that statement

I see no way that the #EUCO - ongoing as I write this thread - can give May anything that'll appease the Brexit hard liners in her party

🇪🇺 is not going to make the backstop time limited or allow 🇬🇧 to unilaterally withdraw it. So the deal on the table is essentially unchanged
The Tories reaching across the political divide to Labour still looks like a ridiculously long shot as well:

1. It's too early to call it but there is a good chance May's #Brexit deal won't make it through parliament - which is a window of opportunity for an alternative approach. And, unsurprisingly, the EEA floats to the top again as the only game in town. (thread)
2. And isn't that interesting? The ERG brexiters have wailed and wailed never once presenting their own credible alternative and even now they have a second crack of the whip, what have they got to say for themselves? Nothing.
3. We see all the usual ultra brexit propagandists working round the clock to discredit May's deal (as if that were even necessary) but still they have nothing at all to put in its place. The cupboard is bare. And now they are going to wail about the EEA.

1) EU leaders sticking to their sombre tone at #Brexit summit. Not happy UK leaving
2) At same time they’re trying to help the PM sell her deal back home. EU chief negotiator Barnier called it an unprecedented, ambitious partnership. Dutch PM Rutte said the PM ‘fought hard’ in negotiations and that it’s a ‘good deal’
3) Of course EU realises the deal may not pass through U.K. parliament but EU leaders today underlined, whatever happened, they would not fundamentally change the deal on offer. EU Commission President Juncker spelled this out particularly clearly

2) European Commission decides today whether or not to delay 2 awaited publications scheduled for Wednesday appearance: paper on future EU-UK relationship and paper on stark EU intentions in case of no deal
3) These 2 papers could be used as carrot/sticks in negotiations but there’s a nervousness in EU circles to get tone right at this delicate coming-to-end-game state of #Brexit proceedings and not to be seen as bullying (remember Salzburg??)
