Lawyers for Good Government @lawyers4goodgov send volunteer Immigration lawyers to Tornillo to help conduct legal intake interviews with 100s of detained kids.

⚠️ They need to raise $250k by Dec 31st, donations are tax deductible

RAICES provides legal support to kids detained at Tornillo.

The authorities are rushing 1000s of kids through hearings, denying due process. RAICES volunteers are trying to keep pace.

@SuMoh7 My personal opinion: It looks as though the Trump administration is still not acting in good faith -
- 908 parents are "not expected to be eligible" - in the majority of cases this is because the parent requires "further evaluation".

@SuMoh7 DHS Sec. Nielsen said her agency would "do its best" to meet the July 26 deadline but would "not cut corners" on vetting parents.

However - in the prior Status Conference on 16 July, the Judge made the point that the vast majority of parents had their children removed -

@SuMoh7 by ICE without any reason to doubt their parentage, so an expedited process can be safe as long as flags are raised appropriately.

This means that DHS’ insistence on the prolonged timeframe for “further evaluation” is the same bad faith behaviour, ignoring the true context -

Update on the ACLU action Ms. L. v. ICE:

Order on July 10: day of 1st deadline to reunite 102 kids aged under 5.

Judge Sabraw ordered the government to abide by the deadline except for a longer time frame for 39 more complex cases: usatoday.com/story/news/nat…

63 must be reunited by Tuesday July 10.

The others with more complicated cases, including 12 whose parents have been removed from the country - an extended timeframe / plan will be ordered by the Judge in the coming days.

#Thread Here's an incredible story about a young man who was busy with loading and unloading in #KeralaFloods relief centres. Only days later people came to know that he was none other than, Kannan Gopinathan, the Collector of Dadra & Nagar Haveli! (1/n)
He travelled in KSRTC buses and covered 5 districts in 10 days without revealing identity. He took leave for serving his homeland in the time of crisis. Kannan is a native of Kottayam. Even his relatives were not aware of his unofficial visit! (2/n)
It was only after Eranakulam Collector Y.Safirulla's visit to centre at KBPS press, the volunteers of the camp came to know that the guy who was helping in loading goods was an IAS officer! (3/n)
