This is interesting--Trump's top pick for AG, William Barr, was a lead investigator on the Lockerbie bombing, along with Robert Mueller. washingtonpost.com/world/national…
That investigation, as regular subscribers to the @Gumby4Christ feed well know, led to the (almost certain) conviction of an innocent man and the framing of Gaddafi's Libya, which (almost certainly) had nothing to do with the attack. lrb.co.uk/v31/n18/gareth…
In 1991, three years after Lockerbie, Barr urged George H.W. Bush to bomb Libya based on a corrupt and phony investigation implicating Gaddafi. Barr was not a military adviser, he was attorney general!
Here's the link for that one: millercenter.org/the-presidency…
That interview is pretty fascinating. Here's Trump's top AG pick Barr bragging about assisting phony insurgencies and coups against Noriega before pushing for a full-scale U.S. military invasion of Panama. millercenter.org/the-presidency…
And here's Barr, an immigration hardliner, defending the use of Guantanamo as a holding pen for HIV+ Haitian refugees (described by a federal judge as an "HIV prison camp") and advocating for turning Gitmo into an off-shore INS processing center. millercenter.org/the-presidency…
Here's Barr bragging about locking up over 18,000 people under "Trigger Lock," a program launched by his DOJ (which is still in place) that allows the feds to take normal local crime cases and inflate the sentences via draconian mandatory minimums. millercenter.org/the-presidency…
Flashback to the early '90s, when good and nice Republican George H.W. Bush was Building The Wall to keep out the dirty Mexicans. His attorney general, quoted below, is now Trump's top pick for AG. Tell me again how Trump is some wild deviation from the conservative tradition?
When the Rodney King riots were kicking off, Barr assembled, overnight, a group of 2,000 federal riot cops, mostly SWAT teams and special ops guys, to tamp down the protesters.
Barr also considered deploying the Army to Los Angeles to crush the protests. He ominously describes himself as having been "very familiar with how to use regular Army in a domestic situation."
Just in case you thought heartlessness toward asylum seekers was something Trump invented...
Barr—who, I want to emphasize, was Attorney General, not DOD or State—here appears to admit that he advocated for a military strike on Mexico to fight the Medellin cartel.
"[U]sing the military in drugs was always under discussion."
Trump's top AG pick William Barr brags about growing the federal prison population by 12% *in a single year!* millercenter.org/the-presidency…
I would be remiss if I didn't point out that Trump's AG pick William Barr was a member of the CIA, from 1973-1977. What's interesting is that he also earned his J.D. in 1977, meaning he was working for the CIA the whole time he was in law school.
William's father, Donald Barr, worked for OSS during WWII. He later became an English professor at Columbia University.
During the 1980s, Barr worked for the law firm Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge, which represented & helped set up a number of shady companies linked to CIA agent Edwin P. Wilson, the center of the Arms for Libya scandal. nytimes.com/1981/09/06/us/…
No here's where it gets verrry interesting: Per Wikipedia, Wilson was involved in training terrorist cells in how to make bombs—particularly radio explosives. One group he trained was the PFLP-GC, the group many believe carried out the Lockerbie bombing!
If true, that means Barr was in charge of an investigation into a crime committed by a group trained and supplied by his fellow CIA agent and former client (whose businesses were set up by Barr's law firm and likely Barr himself!) Is it any wonder Barr indicted the wrong guy?!
Here's the Wiki article. I haven't yet been able to confirm Wilson's specific links to the PFLP-GC anywhere else (there are no references for that claim), but I've only just started to look.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_P._…
I need to go back and watch Allan Frankovich's documentary on the Lockerbie bombing, "The Maltese Double-Cross," because I feel like that has a lot of relevant info on this score.
Wilson claimed that he was still working for the CIA at the time he was shipping explosives to Libya (duh). Interestingly, Wilson's verdict was eventually overturned: “America will not defeat Libyan terrorism by double-crossing a part-time informal government agent."
A 1993 book by Lester Coleman called "The Trail of the Octopus" claims Wilson was part of a decade-long CIA operation to cozy up to Gaddafi with weapons and training. telegraph.co.uk/news/obituarie…
Another deep-state cover-up courtesy of Trump's AG pick William Barr—the MLK assassination. Barr, working for the CIA, hid files showing a conspiracy in MLK's murder on behalf of CIA director George HW Bush.
