Here is the EU’s final no deal guidance.

Several things are immediately clear:

1) Our haulage industry is dead, finito, game over, the end. Companies will need permits to operate in the EU, and there are only a tiny fraction of the number necessary

2) Flights won’t all stop, but neither will life continue as usual.

3) There will be queues at ports because the full custom regime will be enforced.

4) UK citizens in the EU should be okish (unless Theresa May goes nuts and rescinds the offer made to EU citizens here)

5) Financial sector is going to have to crack on with moving EU business out of the UK pretty sharpish

More generally, 3 key points are worth focusing on:

1) All unilateral mitigation measures will be temporary (max until end of Dec 2019, but could end at any time)

2) EU is fighting 100% the EU’s corner ie every mitigation measure is to protect EU27 countries. If it happens to help the UK too, great, but that’s not why they’re doing it (and fair enough - we’re the idiots trying to leave and causing all the hassle)

3) The EU doesn’t believe

in mitigating stuff that companies could have dealt with if they’d been better organised, but didn’t bother to do so for one reason or another. It’s stepping in only in the most dire situations where time is clearly insufficient.

It’s crystal clear a no deal Brexit will hurt the EU, mitigation or not. But it will devastate our economy to an incomparably greater level.

Remember: all this is utterly unnecessary. The Government could take no deal off the table any time. The fact that they won’t is baffling.
