Yesterday I rejoined the Labour Party after a 2 year absence due to your stance on Brexit. Please do not take my membership as an endorsement of your position, far from it; I joined so that I can influence from within the party. Let me explain...

I have spent every single day since June 24 2106 fighting to #StopBrexit. I have done so not so much because I am a huge fan of the EU, but because I value everything that our membership of this Union brings. I treasure the enhanced rights which have been afforded us.

I have benefited enormously from Freedom of Movement, my time living in France during my 20's was formative & given me an extended family. It also enabled me to gain a second language, which has benefited my career, which in turn has enabled me to give my son a better life.

However, aside from my personal reasons for wanting these rights & privileges to continue for the younger generation, my real drivers for #StopBrexit are the same as my reasons for being a Labour Party member: I believe in community, shared values & mutual support.

I believe in giving the best life chances to those who aren't born into privilege & if we leave the EU we would be denying these chances. I believe in unity & solidarity - the EU has been a force for peace for decades & I will not stand by and watch the UK isolate itself.

I too want to re-nationalise the railways in the UK, to make public transport public again & to support climate change action - you regularly cite EU state aid rules, saying they would hamper your agenda - my understanding is that this is untrue.

I want to eradicate homelessness, invest in our NHS, have real, well-paid jobs with rights & protections for workers. I want decent, affordable housing for all, a high quality, accessible education system, compassionate care for the elderly & most vulnerable - so too do you?

All these aspirations are only possible to realise by remaining in the EU. All these are only possible if we get the Tories out of power & your stance on Brexit makes it unlikely Labour would garner enough votes in a GE to achieve this. Labour voters & members are Remainers.

So, my membership is tactical in order to influence from within. I voted twice for you as leader as I believed you when you said that you would be a leader who would listen to us, but listening & then ignoring is unforgivable. Listen to the country - we now want to Remain.

Finally, if you think a Brexit deal which kept the UK in a customs union would appease either Remainers or Leavers, you would be wrong. Labour stands to gain millions of voters if you stand for #StopBrexit, but will lose millions if you do not shift your position. Angela S.
