A lot of people I respect and admire are questioning any network decision to show Trump's speech tomorrow night live. I disagree. 1/
I agree with the general principle that the media has played into his hand far too much. The obsessive attention to every idiotic thing he tweets is absurd. 2/
But I think there is a good chance that tomorrow is a big deal. 3/
People fear of Trump that he has little regard for the niceties and traditions of democratic society, favoring authority and threats. 4/
Every indication is that he is going to, for the first time in a big way, take action on that. He's going to announce an executive order to build the wall with explicit disapproval of Congress. 5/
I think history is likely to view this speech as a historic turning point. He may or may not succeed in destroying democracy. But either way, this is the first important step. 6/
I think you have to cover it. Period. It's history. Bad horrible frightening history. But it's not the right time to try to "deplatform" him. This is real, not twitter nonsense. 7/7
