Seems that nobody can deliver on Brexit because it is driven by illusions of Brexiters: about the UK and about the EU. Theresa May and continental Europe are in unfortunate position to provide the reality check.
This mess happens exactly at a time when the liberal order, which is a joint interest of the UK and continental Europe, is under pressure from without (Russia and China) and within (Trump and populism).
I'm still hoping that Brexit will not entirely ruin both sides' readiness to cooperate on those joint interests, and will not end Britain's ability and will to play a global role.
But the messier the process, the more frustration on both sides -- UK and continental Europe -- will be produced. That's why it would be wise to open up a second track of negotiations between continental powers and Britain about future cooperation on security and foreign policy.
