When Anti-Trump Conservatives Abandon Reason and the Law

Defending an FBI that attempted a coup.

Failed presidential hopeful @DavidAFrench sees nothing wrong with the American federal police force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, investigating their commanding officer because he possesses policies they don’t like.
It’s absolutely fine, according to French and other Never Trump conservatives, that a salacious fiction such as peeing and prostitutes and Russian hotel beds could be floated to the President as “information” or, one could say, a warning.
Like the mafia warns. Or the secret police warn. Just for your own good, but don’t worry, you’re not the subject of an investigation.

These cops are being “prudent and proper,” French assures. Really? Substitute any other president into this scenario.
Obama’s State Department gave the Russians a “reset button” and promised flexibility after the election, gave Iran piles of cash to fund terrorism and lied about it, caused destabilization in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt, and encouraged evil potentates the world over.
He fired 197 military generals in 5 yrs. And he led American foreign policy into the muck with nary an FBI sneeze.

As it should be. Obama’s policies were naive, malicious, anti-Semitic and asinine, but Americans voted this empty suit into office and dealt w/the consequences
President Obama’s foreign policy was at turns both cynical and idealistic, and always incoherent except for hatred of Israel. His domestic policy dampened the American economy just as it was trying to reignite.
He prolonged the misery of average Americans and robbed them further with a huge tax increase in the name of Obamacare ironically named the Affordable Care Act. Rather than bring racial healing, he exacerbated the divide for political power.
He openly despised the half of the country that didn’t vote for him and called them pornographic names. He cozied up to anti-Semites and the press covered for him. His tenure was an unmitigated disaster.
And yet even Never Trumpers pine for him. He was unmolested by the do-gooders at the FBI (as far as we know).

Does Mr. French really want unelected snoops to have the final word on all policy foreign and domestic? Does that outcome somehow protect the Constitution?
And what if this behavior has already been employed by our unelected betters at the Federal Bureau of Investigation?

Maybe other presidents have been on the receiving end of the FBI’s encouragement. How would citizens know?
If the FBI effectively blackmailed other Presidents, people on all sides of the equation would have no motive to tell.

It is Congress that exists to check and investigate the president, not the FBI. Congress can inveigh against his foreign policy and constrain his options.
It can build a case for not reelecting him and perhaps impeach him. These are all actions to be undertaken out in the open by politically accountable players, so the public can make informed judgments about them.
Anyone who professes to want to save the Republic, and David French ran for President to do just that, and then defends a-constitutional means to stop a president whose policy he dislikes is destroying the system he insists he’s saving.
While decrying abuses of power and operating “outside the norms,” the bureaucracy and those defending it are encouraging abuses of power and operating “outside the norms.” This road leads to ruin.
If one believes that Donald Trump is Hitler Teil Zwei, make the case and it damn well better be an impenetrable fortress of truth.
Innuendo provided by the Russians to an opposition research company paid for by the opposing political party and operators connected to government insiders isn’t enough. This shouldn’t even have to be said.
An investigation needs a more solid foundation than a twee snit to defend the honor of the unceremoniously fired, and most righteous man to walk the earth since Jesus of Nazareth, James @Comey.
Donald Trump’s presidency confirms the suspicions of many: That the agencies of the Federal government operate as a law unto themselves. They help those they agree with politically and use the muscle of the federal leviathan to punish their political enemies.
Since Democrats dominate the federal workforce, one can guess where they focus animus. At this writing, the Internal Revenue Service is writing checks to Americans for targeting them [at Obama’s behest, shhh] for their political beliefs. Lois Lerner still receives a pension.
Unfortunately, an enemy of the so-called Deep State was elected President. There has been a full, relentless rebellion since.
Trump’s policies aren’t radical. One may disagree with them, but they’re not so far outside of mainstream. They’re just a brand of policies that government employees don’t want to enact because of who is making them and their own policy preferences.
Trump’s personality, character, and temperament have zip to do with whether the people working in the Federal government should do their jobs.
Coercing the President onto the “correct” path is not the job of FBI agents. That task rests in Congress. Congress answers to the American people. The American people gave back the House to the Democrats. That’s called a check on power. That’s how it happens.
Americans voted for President Obama twice. They voted for President Buchanan. They voted for President Carter. They voted for all sorts of people many other people, including government employees, found and find objectionable.
The Republic still stands, though, because the American voters’ choices were respected and their preferred policies were enacted by the public servants whose role is to serve their fellow citizens, not their own whims.
It’s certainly not their role to attempt a coup and obscure it with spy craft. In fact, they continue their malfeasance.
It’s bad enough that it’s become clear that the FBI's leadership is a partisan shop using their power to manipulate political outcomes by harassing and investigating the President and anyone associated with him or who they don’t like (via @melissatweets)
