Remember Cohen 'bumping into' a bunch of guys on the sidewalk outside Regency Hotel NYC during a break in his trial ? Those weren't just any old guys. Guy in the light blue blazer next to Cohen is Rotem Rosen. Article lays out the connections.
Rosen is head of Lev Leviev's Africa-Israel real estate company in U.S. Leviev is very close to Putin. Rosen is married into the Sapir crime family in Russia. He has close connections to Tevfik Arif and Roman Abramovitch.
Cohen's connections to this world explain, among other things, why his cooperation w/ SDNY only went so far. It also explains what Lanny Davis (who represents Firtash) is doing in the Cohen defense team.
