In 2016 Cameron tried to renegotiate free movement. Anyone who understood the EU could told him it wouldn’t work. He created 2 rods for his own back: he set himself up for failure & implicitly conceded that free movement (and hence WU membership) was harmful.
In 2019 May will, it seems, try to cherry pick the bits of the WA that she likes & bin the rest. Anyone who understands the EU knows this is impossible. She too is fashioning 2 rods for her back: setting herself up for failure & implicitly admitting that the WA she agreed is bad.
