Fuck virginity, hymens, chastity and "purity" that make parents cut and mutilate their daughters. Ever since I learned members of my extended family were subjected to #FGM, I've been writing, obsessively against it. This is from 2019 nytimes.com/2014/11/17/opi… #EndFGM
Something that hurts so many girls and women is kept silent and taboo because it has to do with our vaginas and with sex. From 2016 theguardian.com/society/2016/a… #EndFGM
That NYT oped is from 2014, not 2019. I get so fucking angry about #FGM is rarely see straight.
At the heart of any revolution for social justice and human dignity are consent and agency, the unequivocal belief that I own my body – not the state, not the church/mosque/temple, not the street and not the family. #EndFGM
It is from that belief that we can all help in the fight against #FGM by talking openly and unashamedly about sex and our bodies. #EndFGM
And to be clear: when I talk about #FGM and sex and vaginas I recognize it’s a cis-gender perspective. FGM is patriarchy’s way of controlling cis women’s sexuality. The patriarchy that insists on FGM is heteronormative and one that recognizes strict cis-gender definitions.

First of all Amina Zakari issue is not a gender issue though many are always ready to whip up the gender card. If you are female and you demand accountability from a female you are told you are trying to bring a fellow female down.

Get a portfolio said the writing panel/advice/speaker in what is the latest throwaway simple advice that instantly builds a career…. So, let’s talk about them.

1)Portfolios are NOT magic. Simply having one doesn't get you a job. Tey are a tool to be used in chasing work and an increasing number of employers ask for them. Having one can be very useful, but just putting some bits of writing in the same place does not = instant career.
2) People tend to read your email first, then your c.v. and then portfolio. Mess up stages 1, or 2 and 3 may well not matter. Always rework your email, c.v. and portfolio for EVERY application. Focus on what matches that job/company.
