1. Suggestion that Tusk suggested to May that Corbyn letter was potential way thro will increase calls for cross party compromise
2. But political belief in much of govt is that if May moves to softer Brexit to get it thro House she would not be able to govern after - getting deal thro that way would lead to core of Brexiteers pulling stumps - game over
3. Certainly some diplomats believe this may be her final judgment - sacrifice her leadership and govt to get deal through - that’s why increasingly politicians use phrase ‘party or country’ - but it’s a misunderstanding of May to think that’s a straightforward choice
4. And for govt to trust opposition in time of minority govt would be a very, very big risk - especially when many labour MPs hate the idea as well
