Trump's tactics of division seeks to conquer the news cycle, we may unite behind the idea of fake news, but the cult mentality and self-projected "politics of revenge" keep Trump supporters from seeking common ground.
The mastery behind the term #FakeNews is that it is a simple way to describe one's argument. Both sides, all Americans, every point of view is being agitated to create more division. Trolling is too nice of a word. vanityfair.com/news/2017/03/i…
The reason division occurs, is because our minds have formed an opinion based on current knowledge and when anyone challenges that opinion, our perception literally sends a red flag and decides to attack or wonder. (fight or flight) Does the GIF below bring you joy or agitation?
In the 1920's Russian military masterminds concocted what they called #DeepBattle. The "Deep Battle" concept, was integrated into the Red Army field regulations doctrine by Marshal Mikhail Tukhachevsky. The main focus is to destroy your ability to make a decision.
ISIL - #Daesh uses this military tactic to defect patriots and radicalize civilians. Trump's use of #DeepState is no different, his supporters ability to make a logical decision is destroyed because when they hear #DeepState, they go into attack mode. nymag.com/intelligencer/…
The connection between all 3, is self-confidence. Maintaining power means a ridiculous amount of confidence to a particular vision. This is why, in my opinion, Trump maintains support from specific tribes. Everyone craves praise, and self-confidence. We see a con(fidence) man.
When anyone attacks someone’s confident perception of reality, they become close-minded, auto-safe-mode, smart people will engage in a debate. If a Democrat mentions Trump/Russia in the same sentence; GOP, pundits & Fox News engineered an alternative POV with alternative facts.
Russia had their own alternative facts back in the day as well. Stalin was a revisionist because allegiance to his power and undeniable confidence for THE VISION must be secured to maintain perception management. Dictators crave perception management. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falsifier…
Democrats criticism of Trump was a factional threat to a GOP majority. Still is, with House tables turned however, GOP must protect Trump’s power and image by using #DeepBattle tactics now referred as #ReflexiveMilitary tactics. So what is an effective counter-measure?
I think most would argue, “facts are a stubborn thing” and if we “just have more facts, more context, then people will just get it!” @jack implemented a feature on Twitter that provides context to popular stories to foster informed public discourse. niemanlab.org/2013/08/new-tw…
A majority of our Republic supports facts, hence a majority support Mueller’s investigation, 76% want the full thing released, because most people do understand the importance of facts to decision-making. pbs.org/newshour/polit…
For Donald Trump, facts are a nuisance, facts ugly the picture up, they don’t make things look good because as his book states, in most minds, “perception is reality.” He ‘plays to people’s fantasies.’ It’s not political, it’s manipulative. Manipulation of facts destroys trust.
This is why an effective counter-measure to dis-information is facts. When two different people paint a picture in a creative and unified way, a new and beautiful understanding of the world, an art is created. We must foster this more. Tell better stories.
IMO, this is what being a free thinker is all about. Seeking universal truths, creating new understandings, collaboration between opposing world views and styles. Remaining an individual, but thinking continentially, maintaining national pride, connecting dots elsewhere.
Connecting dots with each other, agreeing to disagree with each other, not being nice, don’t be nice, be passionate about your beliefs, validate others beliefs by acknowledge you two just don’t think about things the same way. The road to common ground is closer than we think.
We all draw different trees, we draw different conclusions, we have different tastes, interests and ways of expression. I think an effective counter-measure to fake news is understanding our differences enough where fake news doesn’t become a weapon of dominance.
