/Spent a lot of time this am thinking abt the President's 2020 re-election rally/ "speech" today in Miami, and offer the following thread about what an outrageous distraction it is from what lies ahead of us. voanews.com/a/trump-to-war…
/What are the threats to America today according to Trump? Last week it was moms and kids at the border, and Iran. This week it's a corrupt horrible dictator in Venezuela and socialism. nytimes.com/2019/02/14/wor… But are these the most urgent threats facing America?
/Let's survey some other news headlines about threats to America and democratic nations. Here's one about Russia using modern 21st century cyber means to interfere in democratic processes in allied nations:
/Or this report about a comprehensive state sponsored hack in Australia, another ally, which penetrated their elected leaders and political parties.
/Or this report from the UK about Facebook and the #Brexit which once again raises questions about the role Russia played in influencing this deeply consequential domestic referendum.
/Or this report about renewed cyber attacks from China and Iran on American companies, something the Trump Administration has been unable to contain or counter. nytimes.com/2019/02/18/tec…
/Or this report about Trump's purposeful weakening of the most important security alliance in American, and perhaps world, history. nytimes.com/2019/02/17/wor…
/Or this report about how DHS is powering down its election security task force.
/Perhaps nothing captures the President's big "threat" charade more than that the one America has focused on for 4 months - and mobilized 4k troops against - was left out of the VP's big speech last week in Europe:
/My point is this - it is time for American policy makers and media to begin to far more seriously challenge the President's never ending distraction from the true threats facing America today. Was interesting to see this recent poll: time.com/5526558/climat…
/Stephen Miller talk about sovereignty and physical barriers can no longer be had w/o talking about the greatest violation of America's sovereignty in our history - the Russian attack on our nation in 2016, and their success at manipulating our democracy to choose our POTUS.
/That America still has no comprehensive strategy in place to counter Russia, to prevent their ongoing interference in our elections and in those of other nations, remains just jawdropping and hard to comprehend. That we aren't even talking about is even worse of course.
/The President's clear and obvious cooperation with the Russians in 2016 to alter the outcome of our democratic election was the greatest crime in the history of the United States, and among the most significant events in our entire history.
/But what makes it all worse is that we've been unable to extricate ourselves from Trump's never ending cover up of Russia's attack, and his support of it. We haven't learned from what happened, and built a strategy to prevent, counter Russia's malign influence.
/There are now encouraging signs of bipartisan cooperation to challenge Trump's Russian influenced foreign policy, and his ongoing distractions from the real threats facing the nation.
/But time now to lift our heads up fr the day to day Mueller filings, the cowardice of Congressional Rs, the welcome hires by House Committees. Not abt investigations alone - we know what happened. Russia attacked, Trump aided, it continues. What are we going to about it?
/Let's commit together to stop taking the daily bait tossed out there by a venal, traitorous POTUS, and focus now on the greatest threats facing us - the weakening of the West, Russia's unchecked aggression, cybersecurity/our openness, climate change.
/The Dem Presidential primary is off to a great start. Inspiring candidates, a range of voices and approaches, big crowds. But soon these candidates have to go bigger & together craft a muscular foreign policy for a new age, and new and evolving threats. Time now. End//////
