Pakistan has seen a dramatic fall in income poverty (much faster than that India or Bangladesh) despite slower growth and much less progress on human capital.
#econtwitter: what is your best read on this puzzle? All the hypotheses I have been looking at dont match the data.
Thanks @ayeshamysore for passing on data on poverty measurement and nutrition for 1990s.

Improved income not leading to improved nutrition was a problem in India which helped explained slower HC improvements than Bangladesh.
Might be a prob too in Pak?
Lots of concern in thread about measurement. I do worry changes in PPP measures might explain some of the timing of big jumps (anyone know?)
But fact the fall persists, both $1.9 and $3.1 poverty rates still lower than rest of SA makes me think not just measurement.
