I’ve had several people question my “ad hominem” criticism of specific individuals at the top of Facebook rather than the company itself. Two things on this mostly for the many good people who work for the company.
(1) your paycheck comes from a company who has aggressively directed retaliation at press coverage and has given the Heisman to lawmakers. You take the paycheck so I have no way to critique your company without shrapnel hitting you. I wish it to be otherwise but here we are.
(2) while they refuse to answer to the public, I will not hesitate to directly criticize the officers of Facebook, its board or those who fight for it (trades and ex-employees). Hiding behind their decisions by labeling criticism of them as “ad hominem attacks” is for cowards.
Cheers. We can do better for the industry. And we should demand real chance which we haven’t seen from Facebook. Moonshots to solve issues where they’re damaging the public. Sleep well. And yes the Guardian scoop this morning is what made me think about this.
