Many Evangelicals do believe that we must support Israel because it will play some role in the End Times, during which (in some descriptions) the Jews who don’t convert will be destroyed. However that’s not *why* they want to hasten Armageddon.
Everyone is dunking on this tweet but it’s true that a sizable number of politically active Evangelicals support Israel because (among other reasons!) they believe events in Israel are fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. Just do 5 minutes of Googling and a whole world will open up.
I wrote a paper in college on how during the Six Day War all of the Christian magazines and newspapers were blowing up about how each part was some fulfillment of prophecy and that’s why we should support Israel. Insane to ignore this.
It’s not some calculation where they’re like “if we support Israel we can hasten the conflict and then lots of Jews will die...excellent.” But belief in these prophecies is a cornerstone of Christian Zionism and many descriptions of Armageddon include a lot of Jews dying.
He’s wrong to think that Christian Zionists hate Jews so they support Israel to hasten the End Times so they die. Rather, they support Israel because of its role in the End Times where many believe Jews die. Subtle, I know, but it’s not some weird plan to get the Jews killed.
