What exactly is the strategy May and Hunt are pursuing with this 'blame the EU' message?
On what world is it more likely that the EU would shift this weekend in the basis of these comments? None.
The only likely effect is flabbergasted dismay and a hardening against May for trying to cast the blame on them.
At best you could say she is trying to set the blame early for a domestic audience. This is unlikely to be effective. Remainers already blame her. Leavers blame her and the EU.
So she'd be making no impact at home while making her negotiating partner even less likely to give her what she wants.
May ends the two year Article 50 process exactly as she began it: with calamitous strategic misjudgement. She hasn't learned a fucking thing.
