1. I support parents on the Birmingham homosexuality school issue because they have right to determine what lifestyles are best for small kids; the school is trying to change beliefs of Muslim pupils; No Outsiders program is part of wider deradicalisation agenda targeting Muslims
2. Parkfield School is 98% Muslim. Islam forbids homosexuality and considers it a major sin. Therefore, any attempt to get Muslim kids to affirm homosexuality in a positive way will be met by resistance.
3. The senior leadership of Parkfield School is completely non Muslim and out of tune with the beliefs of Muslims who predominate in that area.
4. Teaching small kids about sexual relationships at primary school age is inappropriate in my view and there should be an opt out.
5. The No Outsiders programme doesn’t just teach about alternative lifestyles (which might be appropriate at a later age), it proselytises about LGBT issues which Muslims and other religious groups will always resist against.
6. Muslim parents are being demonised as homophobic & bigoted by the mainstream media which I’m not surprised about because it is institutionally Islamophobic. But it’s possible to avoid homophobia but still stick up for your religious beliefs. This is what the parents have done
7. Some may be asking why “Muslims are targeting gays” when many gays have stuck up for Muslim rights. In a general sense, we should welcome support from any group that wants to support us on issues such as Islamophobia, but not at the price of abandoning our religious values.
8. Finally, Muslims are not just under attack on a political level (Palestine, foreign policy etc), we are under attack at a religious level as well in terms of our normative beliefs. If Muslims fail to stand up for our core beliefs there will be no Islam left for our children.
