In our latest report on #Brexit-related treaties we draw the UK-Swiss Trade Agreement to the special attention of @UKHouseOfLords, not only because it’s important, but because it differs significantly from current EU-Swiss arrangements. 1/5 🇬🇧🇨🇭
Switzerland is the UK’s 10th-largest trading partner. This Agreement mostly supports trade in goods, but the majority of trade with Switzerland is in services. We ask the Government to clarify its plans for overall UK-Swiss services trade. 2/5
Parts of the UK-Swiss Trade Agreement will not apply for now, as they would require the UK to maintain rules equivalent to EU ones in some sectors. This will affect agricultural trade and the recognition of UK product certifications. 3/5
Arrangements on customs security are also suspended for the time being – for those to apply, the UK needs to have a separate agreement with the EU. Finally, the UK-Swiss Trade Agreement contains complex rules of origin, which our report untangles. 4/5
