I have been asked multiple times on Twitter what I mean by saying that a biological male is living, or wishes to live, as a woman. For future reference, by "living as a woman," I simply mean that a biological male (continued in next two tweets)
1. uses a typically female name, 2. wears clothes, hairstyles, and makeup designed for women, 3. has changed the sex designation on documents from M to F where possible, and 4. does anything else to foster social acceptance by others as a woman.
This might not be what a biological female or a feminist thinker would highlight as the characteristic experience of "living as a woman." It is, however, pretty much all that is meant by gender-dysphoric patients or by clinicians involved in their care.
