ARTIVISM THREAD:

“One Week In America” by @AMarch4OurLives
In one week in America we lose 735 people to gun violence... 105 of them children.

In one week in New Zealand they were able to pass life saving policy while most people affected in America wont even get thoughts and prayers.
The first part of the activation was the message to Congress.

Every window of the Capitol had a clear view of our message... including the senate majority office where all of GOP leadership had lunch looking at this:
The second part are the memorials.

735 of them.

Communities around America erect these in the response to tragedy.

Victims names don’t seem to connect with some Americans so we put titles everyone could connect with.

Brother, daughter, friend... so people saw themselves.
While the outside heart represents a week... the target in the center represents a day.

A day in the life of an American student — painfully vulnerable to both trauma and violence.

15 children die everyday. We need to make our most vulnerable people less of a target.
The centered Student statue is supposed to be jarring.

From far away it really looked like someone was sitting in the desk.

But when you are face-to-face you see yourself with the statement “AM I NEXT?”

The student is holding a digital memorial for 13 young people killed.
The 13 young people killed articulate different forms of gun violence.

A few were killed in school. A few were killed on their walk home. A few were killed hanging w/ friends.

15 kids die every day.

The 14th is an unreported suicide.

The 15th is represented by the student.
Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee promised she would challenge her colleagues to feel what she felt walking through the art.

Representative Deutch stared at himself as the student.

50+ congressional tours were given.

Every single member was taken aback by the reality of gun violence.
The best moments were when we toured school groups — kids in MAGA gear asking engaged questions.

Students from around America understanding this is about saving lives... A Louisville, KY class spoke about gun violence in their community which gets ignored at the national level.
