Have now read 10 articles about Trump's threat to impose auto tariffs on Mexico that don't mention Trump has already brought a deal into force that effectively exempts Mexico from any auto tariffs he imposes.
Not saying Trump would never ignore the terms of a deal, but it seems like relevant context
That report, on whether auto imports are a national security problem, has already been completed by the Commerce Dept, which Politico reports concluded that they do pose such a security problem (politico.com/story/2019/03/…). It hasn't been publicly released.
