So this clip is from 2018.

The controversy should be why it didn't generate more outrage then because Trump's entire strategy is to dehumanize all immigrants using random often fictional accounts of monsters -- just the way the Nazis smeared the Jews.
The urge to give Trump the benefit of the doubt after the exact smears he was using against the caravan were trumpeted by a guy who shot up a synagogue is beyond appeasement. You're now an accomplice.
This is the kind of human being Trump is dehumanizing.
A thought experiment: How would our media fact check Hitler's claims about the Jews?

If you parse the claims, giving him the benefit of the doubt, you end up just spreading the lie.

He's orphaned these kids, drugged them, wounded them for life. WE KNOW WHAT HE THINKS OF THEM.
By the way, the people pointing out that this clip is from May 2018 are proving the point about the dangers of this dehumanization.

This was right in the middle of the inhumane unprecedented family separation policy that orphaned hundreds of kids.
While pundits and reporters were busy improperly giving Trump the benefit of the doubt about his “animals” comment in the middle May of 2018, the Trump administration was at the height of its family separation policy at the border.

The proper "context" of Trump's comments about "animals" is that counties that hosted a 2016 Trump rally saw a 226 percent increase in hate crimes
