The perpetual mistake is trusting that if "decent people" see the far right for what it is, they'll reject it. They know what it is. They long for it, certain it will only punish "others". This is the bit of history we always edit out: fascism usually rises with popular support.
We see progress as broadly monodirectional. It is not. The garden needs constant tending, because the weeds never rest.

Interesting how many policy issues currently in the news - age verification today, but many others - could be largely solved by identity cards, but they’re never even mentioned. Most democracies worldwide manage to have them without descending to an Orwellian nightmare, you know.
I understand suspicion of ID cards in an age of “hostile environment” but arguably, people like the Windrush generation having ID cards, would have made it easier for them to prove normalised citizenship. It was a lack of documentation that facilitated the hostile environment.
And let's also think on the egalitarian aspect of IDs. Because let me tell you, as a former homeless person, the most vulnerable people don't drive, can't afford a passport, do not have a credit card or bills in their name and are excluded from a shedload of basic amenities.

Not only can John Redwood not provide any factual basis for his claim that “polls show a majority now want to leave with no deal”, he accuses @Channel4News of being biased for asking him. So he is chucked off the programme by @krishgm. Why isn’t EVERY news programme doing this?
Being extremely kind to @johnredwood he may have meant one of two polls. He mentioned Comres. He may have meant this poll, as commissioned and publicised by no-deal cheerleaders “Leave Means Leave”. However, the figure is for tory voters ONLY. @krishgm 1/
Looking at the full data, even setting aside the ludicrously leading agree/disagree question (shame on you @ComRes - for becoming a “give us the answer you want and we’ll reverse-engineer it” merchant), No Deal only gets 41% in a contest with “delaying”. @krishgm @johnredwood 2/

1) @RealAlexJones .You can love him or hate him, may have been like me just caught some of his stuff here & there when shared. I can't say that I am or was a supporter of his. What I can say is this. Americans on the left & right are where the elite want them
2) Whilst, those who came out on the losing end of the election have been pushed into a frenzy. Then those on the winning end whipped into an uproar about the others. We have saw a division of the people like we never imagined.
3) Sadly, not many have cared enough to pay attention to what exactly has been going on. This has been developing since 9/11, if you're not aware then you should wake up & pay attention. There was leaders on both sides applauded at times that took advantage.
