Finished reading how to fail at everything and still win big a few days back.

A thread on the notes i've taken.

Learn to cut noise. Scott did that by making comics. Stick to simplicity.
Consistency is the bedrock. The nearest you can get to truth is through consistency.

But what is consistency? It's showing up every day.
Passion is bullshit. Success is a by-product of desire, luck, hard work, determination, risk appetite. Not passion.
Learn to manage failures. Develop a relationship with it. Appreciate it. Survive it. It will make you stronger, smarter, more talented, better networked, healthier and energized.

According to me, it will also teach you to think unconventionally.
Have a system instead of goals. And continuously look to improve your system. Seek to find that better job. That better investment. That better workout. That better diet.
Stop being lazy and stay in job for decades. Keep looking for better opportunities. Your employer will not hesitate for a minute to fire you. Why should you stop?
Systems work more often than not. They will get you to a better place. Goals might drive you out of the game. Choose consciously.
Create products which could be easily reproduced. Figure your competitive edge. Keep reproducing it. Consistently.
Success comes with a price. Not with passion. Figure out the price, and pay it.

The price to become a good writer is to write a lot.
The price to become a good marathoner is to run a lot.

Figure the price.
Be short-term selfish. Long term generous.

Being selfish is the best option, because being stupid or a burden on society will not help anyone.

Do selfishness right and become a net benefit to the society.
Short term generosity will cause you pain. You are cheating your future. Be long term generous. You will serve better.

Pick the gym instead of helping at home.
Pick the index fund instead of buying a new phone.
Maximise personal energy. Eat right, Workout, get enough sleep, avoid stress.

Easy to say. Hard to do. Pay the price.
Learn simplification vs. optimization.

Simplification works mostly.

The best systems are simple. Complicated ones are prone to failure more often than not.

Do not try to fix the world before you get your priorities right.
Learn to day dream. And have positive affirmations. Plenty of successful people have spoken about the same thing.

It doesnt matter if you idea is a long shot. If it excites you, its worth it.
Stop hesitating to modify your perception if it makes you happy. You are anyways wrong about the underlying nature of reality. Learn to release your ego.
If an idea is not working, stop. Persistence is useful but there is no point being an idiot.
Good plus good is better than excellent. Strive to acquire multiple skills. Each new skill increases the odds of success.
Public speaking, psychology, business writing, accounting, design, conversation, overcoming shyness, second language, golf, proper grammar, persuasion, hobby level technology, proper voice technique.

Few skills you must learn.
Learn pattern recognition.

Successful people are successful by learning the patterns of other successful people.
Finally, have 100% desire for success. Affirmations work when you have that kind of desire.
I have summed up the key lessons in case you do not want to get around reading the book.
