A short thread about Nigel Farage’s new Brexit Party candidates from Spiked (Claire Fox & Alka Cuthbert - also active in the Full Brexit pressure group), their Northern Ireland backstory, and the crapness of our media:
1/ A while back I looked at Sunday Times allegations about Jeremy Corbyn’s IRA links brockley.blogspot.com/2018/09/jeremy… with a follow up about the Warrington bombings and the general climate on the left at the time brockley.blogspot.com/2018/09/three-…
2/ I noted that most of the left were broadly pro-Republican in the 1980s, for good reasons, but that the Warrington bombings & similar atrocities turned the tide. Even the most hardcore pro-IRA groups supported the peace process.
3/ One group, though, who opposed the peace process was the Revolutionary Communist Party, who published Living Marxism (LM). Here’s their take on Warrington:
5/ The RCP were also genocide deniers during the Yugoslav wars, calling ITN, who reported on the genocide, liars. ITN sued them and won, closing down LM.
6/ The RCP had some, er, bizarre habits too:
They also thought AIDS was a ruling class conspiracy to interfere with working class sex lives
7/ Also this: (A Workers’ Bomb is probably a bit like a People’s Brexit or a left-wing defence of ending free movement: i.e. bullshit.)
8/ The RCP now trade under the name Spiked and are funded by the Koch brothers desmog.co.uk/2018/12/04/spi… (HT @GeorgeMonbiot @bellacaledonia @DeSmogUK)
9/ Spiked/the RCP also trade under the name the Institute of Ideas. They hosted a recent controversial event suggesting using ethnic diversity is a threat to the west

(HT @aaronzwinter @aurelmondon @carolinejmolloy)
10/ So these guys - Koch funded genocide tonight with a history of supporting IRA terror - are Farage’s new allies, Front runners in the May Euro elections, and the founders of the increasingly influential The Full Brexit.
11/ If our mainstream media put a fraction of the effort it puts into exposing Jeremy Corbyn’s dodgy past into looking at who is driving Brexit, and where their money comes from, this would all be common knowledge. But it isn’t.
Ok, that’s it.

CORRECTION: According to RCP veteran & Full Brexit founder James Heartfield, the RCP didn’t actually support a “Workers’ Bomb” - apparently that was rival Trot sect the Spartacist League. I thought it was too RCPish to be true.

Seven questions for the #BrexitParty’s Claire Fox, arising from her Sunday Times interview (ShirazSocialist, via @Pabloite) shirazsocialism.wordpress.com/2019/04/28/sev…
UPDATE: Claire Fox (#BrexitParty_UK/Spiked) has (sort of) responded to @JRogan3000’s questions about her past views, and @ColinParryPeace’s comments on her #Warrington stance:
Pleased mainstream media has now picked up backstory to one of Brexit Party’s candidate, Claire Fox from Spiked, thanks to the efforts of @JRogan3000 & @Otto_English. news.sky.com/story/brexit-p…

But I’m not totally happy with how the story is framed. Read on...
First, Fox is just one of the ex-RCP people. James Heartfield (4th on the Yorkshire list) and (I believe) Alka Sehgal Cuthbert (4th on the London list) are too.
Second, the issue isn’t that they’re “ex-communists”, which is no crime. It’s that they are still part of the same vanguard party, which has some very dodgy views. lrb.co.uk/v32/n13/jenny-…
And third, their IRA support is just one of the horrible positions they’ve taken. Lying about war crimes In Yugoslavia was another for example. theguardian.com/media/2000/mar… brockley.blogspot.com/2012/05/war-cr…
UPDATE: A @brexitparty_uk candidate has resigned rather than share a ticket with Claire Fox. Interesting to see if any others do, in NW - or in Yorkshire and London where other ex-RCP people are standing for them.
