Wtf?! This goes against the tenets of #disability studies, by critiquing #neurodiversity & making claims like “disability is not a ‘gift’ that anyone w/ an acute moral sense would give, celebrate, or fail to try to change in the direction of greater ability & less disability.”

Maybe I’m extra salty this AM but I feel compelled to respond. Over HALF of the citations in this article are back to articles published by the lead author. How is that even permissible? How is this original research or thinking & not just inflammatory self-promotional BS?

Holy shit. Just accidentally binged @ramy on @hulu. It was so fucking good yall. Such complex, interesting narratives; at times very uncomfortable or dark, but somehow consistently amusing & humorously real.
It reminds me a little of Master of None, but with more depth? It’s just gets more powerful with every episode. I did not mean to watch it in one day but I did. I fucking did.
Highly recommend for children of immigrants & millennials raised in religious households. It’s not my story but Lord if I didn’t feel some of those episodes in my bones.

What I’m saying is: Go watch #Ramy.

Me e-mailing every editor who has accepted my work but not published it yet to confirm publication dates for my tenure file CV.
Look, there is one book chapter that I wrote in 2015 and the last I heard (in Jan 2018) it was supposed to be published in Oct 2018. It’s April 2019 & I haven’t heard from the editors in over a year so...
I currently have 5 articles/chapters/essays accepted & 5 more under review. Only 4 of these pieces were submitted in 2018 or 2019, the rest have been languishing in academic publishing purgatory for years. Remember kids: don’t rely on any single publication for tenure.

I’ve had multiple ppl tell me that if I don’t get tenure I have a lawsuit on my hands & yet a part of me is still like: Racism & sexism are wild & I trust no white man’s “meritocracy”. I’ll feel confident I have tenure when I see the paperwork that says so & not a second sooner.
There are too many horror stories of talented, accomplished women of color being denied tenure, particularly at elite universities. There are too many stories of people working themselves into health crises & strained relationships for 6 yrs only to be told no.
You can’t ask me to put faith in a system that has harmed & failed so many people I admire. I will believe it when I see it. And in the meantime, I’ll be spending this summer preparing myself for what I do if it’s a no.

The people who scream at blind people for using phones, wheelchair users for moving their legs & people with mental health conditions for laughing, think they are doing some service to the real “deserving disabled”.

This only harms & isolates disabled people.
Portrayals of disability are so negative that we are automatically fakers for leaving the house, having a job, a sex life, enjoying sports, using technology, buying a luxury item, or simply being happy.

And what were those conversations about, I hear you cry?

Well, they were mostly about how we could make computing a tool for a better society. We had a strong focus on #neurodiversity & #autism (obvs) but actually these ideas link to all sorts of diversity dimensions
