Speaking at a conference at the US Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Ambassasor David MacNaughton, a big fan, predicts a Raptors championship. He says he concluded last night that “Golden State doesn’t have much of a defence.”
MacNaughton says that if the U.S. lifted its steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada, the Canadian government would likely introduce legislation to ratify the new NAFTA “fairly soon” after.
On the Trump administration’s desire for quotas to replace his steel and aluminum tariffs, MacNaughton says, “We’re not going to sit back and be confined to some hard-cap quota.”
MacNaughton says “it’s unlikely” Trudeau would bring back Parliament after it breaks in mid-June to ratify the new NAFTA before the Canadian election expected in October. He says it’s at least possible, though.
MacNaughton says there continue to be no actual negotiations happening on the steel and aluminum tariffs, just the two countries restating their positions.
