Putin doesn’t have pee tapes on all of these weak-willed white men. They were cultured for decades into blind deference to whomever currently wields the scepter. Fundamentalism, white supremacy and fascism seeped into every pore of a greed-addled @GOP to create this menace.
For years in the DC big firm culture, I heard variations of “but that high-powered white male must be right - if he wasn’t superior, how could he have risen to such power?” It runs in the veins.
Now, though, we’re seeing how white male power really happens, like a dissected corpse in an anatomy textbook. Skin peeled back, we know the ugly truth. Incompetent and mediocre white men use privilege to buy more privilege, inherited power to buy more power.
And when democracy needs them? They crumple like the paper tigers they are. Morally vacant. Ethically absent. Responding only to the latest dangle from the latest scepter-waver.
I vacillate between “I should have stayed and fought longer” and “No one person can fight THAT.”

Trump bought these guys, all of them, like he bought Emmett Flood. Wave a bit of money, a bit of fame, a bit of flattery. You can have every single one of them, and they’re not nearly as expensive as you’d think.
Even the empty balloon of a reality TV star can own a man who is all outside, no inside.
